Letter to Kid Baltan

"Letter to Kid Baltan" from new Sigma-record "Worlds Within Worlds" is dedicated to Dutch composer Dick Raaijmakers who wrote – under the alias Kid Baltan – the world's first popular electronic composition "Song of the Second Moon" in 1958. All the sounds in "Letter to Kid Baltan" are created with TTSH 2600 (a clone of ARP 2600). Sounds are made in the spirit of early electronic music studios (Philips Research Laboratories in Eindhoven) when they used all kind's of laboratory electronics (tape recorders, octave filter, sine wave generators...) to create those amazing compositions. They didn't have any electronic keyboard instruments other than Ondes Martenot and Ondioline.

Raaijmakers received a letter from Stanley Kubricks assistant in 1965 where Kubrick was interested to use Raaijmakers music in his Space Odyssey 2001 film-project. As we know this didn't happen but this shows the importance these Dutch electronic music pioneers (Dick Raaijmakers, Tom Dissevelt, Jan Boerman...) had to electronic music scene.
